Tips if you have a swollen or abscessed gums

A dental abscess is a swelling on the gum, which can be painful and filled with a purulent fluid. There are two types of dental abscesses. If not treated promptly, the abscess can progress and cause facial swelling, fever and severe pain that radiates to the head or under the jaw.

• Rinse the mouth with warm salt water several times a day.
• Relieve pain with a pain reliever.
• Apply warm compresses to the face.
• See the dentist as soon as possible or make an appointment at a medical clinic.
