Bitten tongue or lip: what to do
Tips to treat a bite inside your mouth
Biting your tongue while eating is very uncomfortable but rarely serious. However, if the bite is the result of a sports injury or accident, it requires more attention.
• Apply direct pressure to the wound with a clean cloth to stop the bleeding.
• If there is swelling, place cold water compresses on the wound.
• Normal healing should take 7 to 10 days.
• If bleeding persists or you suspect infection, contact the dentist or make an appointment at a medical clinic.
